Modern Poetry in Translation – Ted Hughes
Date: 16th of November 2015, 19:00
Venue: Kings Place
‘A supple river of mirrors I run on
Where great shadows rise to the glance…‘
Knowledge Quarter partner, Poet in the City, presents an event in celebration of Ted Hughes, marking the 50th anniversary of Modern Poetry in Translation, and exploring his remarkable legacy.
When Ted Hughes and Daniel Weissbort founded MPT in 1965 they had two principal ambitions: to get poetry out from behind the Iron Curtain into a wider circulation in English and bring an English speaking readership into contact with some of the best poetry from around the world.
Featuring acclaimed poet and former MPT editor David Constantine, with current editor Sasha Dugdale, leading classicist Edith Hall and 2014 Next Generation poet Tara Bergin, this special event will look at Hughes’ poetry and his own translations and adaptations, celebrating one of the true giants of 20th Century poetry
