Sustainability and Climate Change: TFL Masterclass on efficient deliveries

27 09 2019 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Deliveries in and out of the Knowledge Quarter have a substantial environmental footprint. It’s time we did something about it.

Transport for London will lead a hands-on, action-planning masterclass for Knowledge Quarter partners to get under the skin of the problem.

Deliveries contribute to the congestion on Euston Road, reduce air quality (35% of all road-based Nitrogen Oxide emissions in Greater London are from freight!) and impact the wellbeing of our employees and students, not to mention the fact that inefficient deliveries are probably costing your organisation time and money.

So, what’s your freight footprint? And how can we in the Knowledge Quarter reduce it by working together?

In this morning masterclass, hosted by Impact Hub King’s Cross, TfL will introduce simple but effective solutions from their Efficient Deliveries toolkits for business. The masterclass will explore best practices with your deliveries and, in interactive workshop format, help you identify opportunities for your organisation to save time and money, improving air quality and the public realm in the process.

Ideas the masterclass will explore couple inspiration with simple, achievable steps that have been proven to make a tangible difference. These include:

  • reducing the impact of personal deliveries
  • streamlining when business waste is collected
  • and receiving deliveries outside of the busiest times.

The masterclass will be delivered by Clive Wanstall and Libby Gibson from TfL’s Travel Demand Management team. Libby and Clive have extensive experience working with businesses from small independents, to large chains such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s to reduce congestion across London, supporting progressive change in deliveries and servicing, alongside active travel and smart commuting. The have recently delivered workshops to businesses along Old Street, Fitzrovia, Hatton Garden, Aldgate, Waterloo and Southwark.

To attend the workshop, you must first declare your interest with a Knowledge Quarter team member.

Time and Place

Friday 27 September, 9:00-11:00.
Impact Hub King’s Cross.

Who should attend?

This workshop is aimed at managers and team leaders from within our membership working in EstatesLogisticsWasteProcurement and Sustainability.

Why attend?

Get better connected with individuals from different organisations in the area who are working in the supply chain, whether they are from Estates, Logistics, Procurement, Waste or Sustainability.

And if that isn’t tempting enough, how does saving the planet sound?

Did you know…?
Bond Street businesses reduced waste vehicle movements by 94 per cent, and experienced a 76 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide equivalent and nitrogen oxides following implementing a delivery reduction scheme.

We believe individuals working within the supply chain have enormous power to affect positive change in the way organisations confront the Climate Emergency. The Knowledge Quarter is a test-bed for innovation, a model of collaborative working, so join us as we come together to reduce our collective carbon footprint.
