About the Exhibition
Discover the untold story of Britain’s canals – feats of engineering that shaped the nation. This exhibition honours the surveyors and engineers who designed them and the thousands of navvies who built them, working in grueling conditions with just picks, spades, and wheelbarrows.
Opened by HRH The Princess Royal on 10th March 2025, the exhibition explores the Golden Age of canals (1770–1830s), when nearly 4,000 miles of waterways transformed trade and industry.
