Public Lecture: Blasphemy and the State in Pakistan

Aga Khan Centre 10 Handyside Street, London, United Kingdom

Blasphemy is one of the most contentious issues in contemporary Pakistan. Founded as a safe homeland for Muslims, the country has wrestled with the role of Islam in the state since its inception. In this free public lecture, part of Aga Khan University's Governance Programme, historian Dr Yaqoob Khan Bangash will explore the history of blasphemy laws in Pakistan, and their effect on free speech and the rights of religious minority groups.
