Join the Knowledge Quarter for our last free morning private view of 2025 at the Charles Dickens Museum
About the Charles Dickens Museum
Situated at 48 Doughty Street, this beautifully restored Georgian townhouse was once home to Charles Dickens, his wife Catherine, and their young family.
It was here that Dickens completed The Pickwick Papers, wrote Nicholas Nickleby, and created one of his most famous works, Oliver Twist – the stories that would make him a household name and win the admiration of Queen Victoria herself.
Today, the museum is arranged as though Dickens had just stepped out, with intimate rooms filled with his own furnishings, portraits, and treasures. Step back into 1837 and experience the atmosphere of a bustling Victorian home, lit with warmth and history – a world that inspired A Christmas Carol and the timeless spirit of generosity and joy it celebrates.
