The transition for young people from school to further education or the world of work is a time when all students would benefit from guidance on their options and pathways. Islington Council’s Youth Progression Service aims to fill a brief but important window in young people’s lives.
In this session the Council presents some of the opportunities the service has created for Islington’s young people, and some of the ways in which Knowledge Quarter partners can open their doors and create pathways to skills development and employment, particularly for young people from underrepresented backgrounds.
SIOBHAN SCANTLEBURY, Head of Youth Progression, Islington Council
Siobhan is Head of Youth Progression at Islington Council. Her team provides a careers education programme in Islington’s primary and secondary schools, and supports the positive progression of young people, aged 16-25, into employment, education, and training outcomes. Most of this work is centred on cohorts of young people that are most at risk of becoming long-term unemployed into adulthood, such as those with care experience, special educational needs and disabilities and those known to the youth justice service.
Siobhan has worked in the field of employment and skills for more than 20 years across the private, public and charitable sector and is passionate about bringing these experiences together to create meaningful programmes, opportunities and pathways for Islington’s young people to thrive.
