Launched by Islington Council in 2021, Leading Inclusive Futures through Technology (LIFT) is a partnership between four London boroughs (Islington, Camden, Hackney and Tower Hamlets) to develop a programme of community engagement, employment, training and apprenticeships schemes, and entrepreneurship support, with the aim of building a more inclusive knowledge economy.
In this session, Islington Council presents an overview of LIFT’s aims and work, sharing insights and lessons learned from the programme, and the ways in which employers in tech, creative and science sectors will benefit from the boroughs’ diverse local talent.
HAMISH MACKAY, Senior Programme Manager, LIFT, Islington Council
Hamish is Senior Programme Manager for LIFT, working across the boroughs of Islington, Camden, Hackney and Tower Hamlets. Through LIFT, Hamish manages programmes that create more opportunities for residents to benefit from the thriving knowledge economy. Hamish has 20 years’ experience of working in local authority, education and youth sectors to help people prepare for the future world of work, build successful careers, and to connect businesses with their local communities for a more inclusive economy.
MELEK ERDAL, Senior Programme Manager, LIFT, Islington Council
Melek is an Employer Engagement Officer for the LIFT programme, working with local businesses to diversify their talent pipeline and find new ways to recruit more fairly. Melek is also a writer, entrepreneur and community activist, with experience in charity and community organisations alongside public sector
