Boosting knowledge exchange through the mobility of innovators and researchers across sectors: A new Taskforce to unlock productivity

As national challenges around vacancies and skills gaps persist, and in light of increased Government emphasis on innovation for growth and the development of regional clusters, there is an acute need for experts to move between sectors, across nations and regions.
In response to the challenge the National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) established the Mobility Taskforce, a live project benchmarking the career paths and mobility of researchers between university roles and industry. In this session, NCUB presents the aims and outcomes of the taskforce, and demonstrates the important role of researchers in knowledge transfer and the impact of cross-sector mobility on innovation outcomes across the UK.
DANNI CROUCHER, Policy Lead for Skills and Talent, NCUB
Danni is Policy Lead for Skills and Talent policy at NCUB, where she develops and influences Government policy for the benefit of universities, businesses and the UK economy. She works with members and government to address skills gaps and level up the innovation workforce.
Danni joined NCUB from the Institute of Physics (IOP), where she led R&D, education and diversity and inclusion policy, and previously worked in policy, analysis and public affairs at Government laboratory NPL, and in social policy at the Consumer’s Association, Which?.
JORGE VELEZ OSPINA, Principal Economist, NCUB
Jorge is NCUB’s principal Economist and works in the Policy and Engagement Team at NCUB, conducting independent research in areas related to research, innovation and the labour market. Jorge is also an associate faculty at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU, University of Sussex) and holds a PhD, MSc and BSc in Economics.
