Mathew recently completed his doctorate in medieval Islamic History at the University of Edinburgh on the subject of history writing in Egypt in the medieval period. He works with the KITAB team at AKU-ISMC, who study medieval Islamicate history (particularly medieval Arabic texts) through digital methods. In particular, Mathew works with the team to help develop visualisations for their multiple complex datasets. He is interested in digital reading environments and the way that they can be used improve the accessibility of primary sources and historical research.
