Malcolm is an Arup Fellow in the field of masterplanning and urban design. He was the founding design director for Arup Urban Design, London. In this role he undertakes a wide variety of projects that address the issues of sustainable urbanism around the world. He has led on a number of major urban design commissions including the Wellcome Campus in Hinxton Cambridge, North Tottenham Regeneration Strategy; National Food Resilience Programmes; Northstowe, new town; NOMA manchester for the Cooperative Group; and Preston Beach new Town in Australia. He has also worked on the Dongtan Eco-city project in Shanghai, Stratford City, the new metropolitan centre for London incorporating the London Olympic village, Pinewoods studios, and BSkyB broadcasting campus. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has served as a design reviewer for the CABE. Malcom has been a visiting teacher at Yale University and heis retained by the City of Amsterdam as Lead Designer for Zuidas, the new commercial hub of Amsterdam.
