In this Virtual Private View of Julian Claxton’s photography\, Age UK Camden will share an intimate and unseen side to the pandemic. \nAge UK Camden organised and launched an initial response to the COVID 19 crisis on Friday 13th March 2020\, providing emergency food parcels via donations. When national lockdown was announced in late March there was an inevitable surge in demand for support\, and clients were becoming increasingly distressed. \nAge UK received over 7000 referrals and delivered over 20\,000 bags of food throughout the borough. \nThe narrative and images in the exhibition focus on the local people who made this response possible; including those from Age UK who put themselves at risk every day for the good of others\, to source and pack essential provisions for those who were unable to get food for themselves\, the delivery drivers and those making regular phone calls and caring for older people shielding at home. \n‘We are very proud to display these achievements through a gallery of such impactful imagery.’ Nikki Morris\, CEO Age UK Camden. \nPhotographer Julian Claxton has held numerous exhibitions\, been featured nationally & internationally in print and won numerous awards\, including the 2015 Travel Media Awards for documentary images of children in rural Uganda\, the 2016 Event Photography Awards for ‘Election day’ documentary and reached the final of the 2013 National Geographic competition. This Virtual Private View will bring together two exhibitions of Aby Warburg’s legendary Bilderatlas Mnemosyne\, revealing Warburg’s revolutionary understanding of art and cultural theory. \nFor the first time since 1929\, all 63 panels of Aby Warburg’s renowned Bilderatlas Mnemosyne have been reconstructed using Warburg’s original materials for display at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. In a simultaneous exhibition at the Gemäldegalerie you can see some 50 original artworks in the collections of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin chosen by Warburg for inclusion in his encyclopedic atlas of images. Our partners freed up parking spaces\, supplied personal protective equipment and even developed COVID-19 testing pipelines. \nThis virtual session will consolidate the lessons from the spring\, and add further resilience to future planning in the event of another significant outbreak of cases. By the end of the session partners will have a clear idea of what resources they can offer in support of the hospitals\, and of how\, as a network\, we can be responsive and innovative to the demands of the situation. \nThe Knowledge Quarter Supply Chain network is made up of professionals working in logistics\, procurement\, estates\, facilities\, waste and sustainability. Demand for food banks has tripled. A generation of young people have experienced an extraordinary setback in their educational and social development. \nWhile demand for community services has risen\, income has fallen sharply. Research into the impact of the coronavirus on the sector shows a funding shortfall of up to £10 billion by the end of 2020. \nAt the same time\, there are signs the pandemic has inspired a greater community purpose. Voluntary aid groups have sprung up to support those who are self-isolating. \nIn the first series of Community Champions we were lucky enough to be in the same room together\, to hear about inspiring partnerships between KQ and community partners\, and to carry this inspiration into our conversations with one another. \nThe focus of a virtual event must be different. A fair number of manuscripts are on public view for the first time. The exhibition provides a snapshot of the range and richness of Hebrew Manuscripts in the British Library’s collection\, and reveals the power of the written word to bring people together. \n  \n\n\nAbout the Curator \nIlana Antoinette Tahan\, M.Phil. OBE has been educated at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem\, Israel\, and at the Aston University in Birmingham\, UK where she was awarded a Master of Philosophy degree. Ilana joined the British Library as Hebraica Curator in 1989. In 2002\, she became Head of the Hebrew Section in charge of one of the finest Hebraic collections in the UK\, comprising some 3\,000 Hebrew manuscripts\, c. 7\,000 Genizah fragments and ca 75\,000 printed books. \nSince 2010\, Ilana has been Lead Curator of Hebrew and Christian Orient Studies. In addition to being responsible for the significant British Library’s Hebraic collections\, she also manages the Library’s Christian Orient collections\, which include the Armenian\, Coptic\, Ethiopian\, Georgian and Syriac holdings. \nIlana has been the Lead Curator responsible for the smooth running and delivery of the Hebrew Manuscripts Digitisation Project\, a major\, externally funded project undertaken by the British Library\, 2013-2020. Handwritten Sanskrit manuscripts\, which are fascinating samples of the principal textual discoveries of the project\, will be on display. A vivid Mughal painting of pre-modern asceticism will be contrasted with photographs and video material sourced during extensive ethnographic fieldwork of present-day ascetic practitioners in India\, including very rare examples of female practitioners. \n  \nThis event will be presented by the curators of the exhibition\, Daniela Bevilacqua and Jacqueline Hargreaves. \nAbout Daniela Bevilacqua: Daniela is a South-Asianist who uses ethnographic and historical methodologies to dig into religious issues of Indian culture. She received her PhD in Civilizations of Africa and Asia from Sapienza University of Rome. She is now a Post-Doc Research Fellow at SOAS\, working for the ERC funded Hatha Yoga Project. Her role in the project is to collect\, through fieldwork\, historical evidence of yoga practice and ethnographic data among living ascetic practitioners of yoga. \nAbout Jacqueline Hargreaves: Jacqueline is an Engineer and Yoga Teacher who researches how historical yoga practices are applied in the modern world. She is the curator of the ‘Embodied Liberation’ exhibition at the Brunei Gallery. Enjoy privileged out-of-hours access to the exhibition in the company of lovely\, like-minded individuals living and working in the Knowledge Quarter. \nThe exhibition begins in 1919 just after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles marked the formal end of the First World War\, which led to the establishment of contemporary peace movements.
