SUMMARY:Jo Brocklehurst: Nobodies and Somebodies (Exhibition runs until 14 May 2017)
DESCRIPTION:Jo Brocklehurst: Nobodies and Somebodies Exhibition at the House of Illustration \nDrawing live in fetish clubs\, punk squats and on the performance scene of 1970-90s London\, Berlin and New York\, Jo Brocklehurst’s artwork is a unique record of subculture. \nHer figurative paintings from fetish clubs document experiments with sex\, androgyny and couture that later inspired the mainstream fashion collections of Jean Paul Gaultier\, while her best-known portraits from the 1980s offer a raw\, beautiful and female perspective on punk. \nCo-curated by her model and muse Isabelle Bricknall\, the exhibition also features her drawings of Berlin’s 1990s performing arts scene for the Berliner Zeitung newspaper\, alongside clubland-inspired interpretations of Alice Through the Looking Glass. \n“This new exhibition shows unseen portraits – many thought lost – of caberet artists\, bohemians\, new romantics\, punks\, drag queens and fetish fans… The most inventive extremes of London’s clubland became Brocklehurst’s catwalk.” New York Times \nThe exhibition runs until 14 May 2017\, please go to the House of Illustration website to purchase tickets. \nCost: £7.50\, adult ticket

SUMMARY:ACE Dance and Music - Ten
DESCRIPTION:ACE Dance and Music\nTEN \nSpecial offer from Knowledge Quarter (KQ) partner The Place to get £12 tickets instead of £16 for KQ members with the code ACE17. \nAt a time when more and more people across the world find themselves having to leave their lands\, ideas of home and belonging are unknown. \nInspired by global migration\, TEN is centred around the relationship between two brothers. Full of intense physical power and very human fragility\, TEN explores the concepts of moving away\, looking at how and why people choose unimagined destinies over the lives they’d always thought they’d live. \nCombining contemporary dance with an essence of Flamenco\, Kathak and ACE’s inimitable Afro-fusion style\, TEN is a visceral and exhilarating dance production. \nWatch the trailer \n“The sheer physicality\, Technical ability\, style and discipline were full of emotion and expression… energetic and magical.”\nBirmingham Post \nArtistic Director: Gail Parmel\nChoreographer: José Agudo\nComposers: Giuliano Modarelli\, Beautiful Noise (Vincenzo Lagmagna) \nRegistration: please click here to book your place. \n

SUMMARY:Knowledge Quarter Festival Engagement Showcase
DESCRIPTION:The Knowledge Quarter would like to invite you to a unique festival networking event\, where you can begin to make connections with a whole host of organisations across Camden and Islington. \nThe aim of this event is to introduce festival organisers and community engagement specialists from Knowledge Quarter partners\, at a relaxed and informal evening at the Royal Veterinary College. \nLaunched two years ago\, the Knowledge Quarter (KQ) is a partnership of 80 academic\, cultural\, research\, scientific and media organisations located in a one-mile radius around King’s Cross\, Euston Road and Bloomsbury. Collectively\, the geographic area of the Knowledge Quarter contains possibly the greatest knowledge cluster anywhere in the world. \nThe KQ’s partners range from internationally significant research institutes to emerging organisations in the creative industries. Partners include the British Museum\, the University of the Arts London\, Google\, the Digital Catapult\, Wellcome Trust\, The Guardian and the British Library. The partners might be vastly different\, but all share one common purpose: the creation and dissemination of knowledge. \nThe Knowledge Quarter has a keen interest in engaging with its direct communities and has developed a Community Engagement Group to focus on this important area. The group is made up of a specialist network of staff from the KQ partner organisations whose focus is working on collaborative and independent community projects. \nFestival Organisers: We would like to invite festival organisers to share information and examples of your festival highlights\, and to help with this we will give each organisation a table and poster stand to fill however you choose! The Knowledge Quarter will provide an £100 budget to each participating festival organisation\, please bring your invoices along to the event and a cheque will be issued on the night. \nKnowledge Quarter partners: We would like Knowledge Quarter partners to consider what skills and activities they can offer to our local festivals\, and bring along a clear idea of how best to engage. We will have a space for notices to be placed which festival organisers to view\, ensuring that no conversation or opportunity is missed. \nGeneral notice: Whilst some of the organisations might be responsible for grant funding in different departments\, this event is focussing on activities and skills that Knowledge Quarter partners can offer. We do however\, recognise that fundraising is a key issue\, and we would like to offer people who attend the April event the chance to attend a free fundraising capacity building workshop in autumn. \nThis is a free event however places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. \nRegistration: Please go to our Eventbrite page to book your place.
