DESCRIPTION:Book this event through Eventbrite here \nAge UK Camden have been documenting their work in the community throughout the COVID19 crisis. In this Virtual Private View of Julian Claxton’s photography\, Age UK Camden will share an intimate and unseen side to the pandemic. \nAge UK Camden organised and launched an initial response to the COVID 19 crisis on Friday 13th March 2020\, providing emergency food parcels via donations. When national lockdown was announced in late March there was an inevitable surge in demand for support\, and clients were becoming increasingly distressed. \nAge UK received over 7000 referrals and delivered over 20\,000 bags of food throughout the borough. \nThe narrative and images in the exhibition focus on the local people who made this response possible; including those from Age UK who put themselves at risk every day for the good of others\, to source and pack essential provisions for those who were unable to get food for themselves\, the delivery drivers and those making regular phone calls and caring for older people shielding at home. \n‘We are very proud to display these achievements through a gallery of such impactful imagery.’ Nikki Morris\, CEO Age UK Camden. \nPhotographer Julian Claxton has held numerous exhibitions\, been featured nationally & internationally in print and won numerous awards\, including the 2015 Travel Media Awards for documentary images of children in rural Uganda\, the 2016 Event Photography Awards for ‘Election day’ documentary and reached the final of the 2013 National Geographic competition. Julian documented Age UK supporting the Camden community in lockdown through photography. These images tell the story of the organisation\, the people and the passion for providing services for older people\, as well as the struggles and emotions experienced in such a challenging environment. \nAbout Age UK Camden: \nAge UK Camden is an independent charity working in Camden to offer support and services to older people. DESCRIPTION:Book tickets through Eventbrite here. \nKQ Private View: Covid and Me Monologues \nTheatre of Debate present ‘Covid and Me’\, a series of monologues to show how people from underserved communities have been affected by the Covid Pandemic and to underline the importance of COVID-19 research in developing treatments and vaccines for all. \nInspired by the lived-in experiences of the participants\, the playwrights created 10 authentic characters\, who appear in 13 original monologues. Each monologue explores the characters experience of living in a world which has been changed by the Covid 19 pandemic\, capturing their thoughts and feelings about taking part in Covid 19 treatment and vaccine trials. \nThese films are fictional pieces of storytelling drama funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)\, in partnership with Leeds University. \nJoin this special\, theatrical\, event where we’ll be seeing some of the monologues performed live\, and will hear more about the project. The event will be of particular interest to parents\, teachers\, community educators and anyone working in data research\, clinical trials and public health. \nProf Sue Pavitt specialises in clinical trial research and at the University of Leeds. She is passionate about encouraging research inclusivity and works with and for underserved communities to tackle health inequality and literacy. As a Project Lead at the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR)\, she is a Co Executive Producer of the Covid and Me project.  \nSudha Bhuchar is an award-winning actor/playwright. TV and film credits include Coronation street\, Stella\, Mary Poppins Returns and Mogul Mowgli. Writing credits include Child of the Divide (Winner Asian Media Awards 2018)\, My Name is…. (which she also adapted for Radio 4) and Touchstone Tales\, a Revoluton Arts/Wellcome Collection commission. Sudha is one of the playwrights who created the 13 monologues in this project. \nShaheen Khan is an actor/co-writer whose career spans over 40 years in film\, TV\, stage\, radio\, audiobooks and voice overs. Her film work includes Bhaji on the Beach and Bend it Like Beckham. Theatre credits include Midnights Children (RSC) and Rafta Rafta (National Theatre). She won The Asian Women of Achievement Award for Arts and Culture in 2006. Shaheen will do a live reading of one of the monologues during the event. \nOladipo Agboluaje has written several original plays\, adaptations\, and radio plays. He has been writer in residence at Soho Theatre and the National Theatre. He is Royal Literary Fund Fellow at the University of East London and Assistant General Secretary of the African Theatre Association. His most recent play\, Here’s What She Said To Me was produced by Utopia Theatre at the Crucible Theatre\, Sheffield. \nNigel Townsend is Founder and Artistic Director of Theatre of Debate\, and has produced 33 national and international tours of plays with workshops and online resources reaching over a million young people\, teachers\, youth leaders\, health and science professionals and members of the general public. We will be joined by Frances Jeens\, Director of Jewish Museum London\, who will share some of the work they’ve been doing on measuring emotional responses to exhibitions. We will also use the meeting to reflect on the last 12 months and how our organisations have responded to the various challenges.  \nEmotional Evaluation at Jewish Museum London  \nThree years ago the Jewish Museum London began a new method of evaluation based on the desire to measure the impact of their programmes through the emotional responses of visitors across all their experiences within the Museum. A pilot programme was launched to trial collecting statistical data on how the Museum emotionally interacts with its visitors\, which has since grown to both change the creation of their programmes and how they evaluate them. \nJoin the session to both see the results from the initial pilot project and to hear how this has impacted the Jewish Museum London’s work both before and during Covid-19 and their plans for reopening our Museum building. SUMMARY:KQ Virtual Private View: The Silk Road\, A Living History
DESCRIPTION:Book this event through Eventbrite here \nThe Aga Khan Foundation UK present an an exclusive virtual private view of their open-air photography exhibition about the people\, places and cultures encountered across 17 countries between the UK and China along the ancient Silk Road.  \nComprised of nearly 160 photographs mounted on 24 photo benches\, The Silk Road: A Living History invites the viewer to take a 40\,000km journey from London to Beijing. The exhibition documents an overland journey photographer Christopher Wilton-Steer undertook in 2019 following the historic trade route.  \nThe show aims to celebrate the diversity of cultural expressions found along the route\, highlight examples of how historical practices\, rituals and customs live on today\, and also reveal some of the connections between what appear at first glance to be very different cultures. It also seeks to engender interest and understanding between distant cultures and challenge perceptions of less well known and understood parts of the world. Photographs from Iran\, Turkmenistan\, Uzbekistan\, Tajikistan\, Kyrgyzstan\, Pakistan\, India\, China and elsewhere will feature. Additionally\, the exhibition aims to raise awareness about AKDN’s contributions to improving the quality of life across social\, economic and cultural spheres in Central and South Asia as well as the Middle East. \nChristopher Wilton-Steer is a travel photographer and Head of Communications at Aga Khan Foundation UK. His professional and personal work take him to remote locations across Africa\, Asia and the Middle East. Through his photography\, he is interested in exploring less well documented and often misunderstood parts of the world in an effort to help demystify them and build bridges of interest and understanding between different cultures. Ultimately\, he wishes for his photographs to encourage others to take the road less travelled and explore\, experience and encounter new places\, people and cultures. If an image can say a 1000 words\, then a drawing by Blake can tell an entire story!  \nThis summer\, join the Knowledge Quarter for this exclusive virtual private view and immerse yourself in an exhibition that fuses artists and writers across generations and art forms\, with creativity sparking creativity in turn. See an incredible gift of works from Sir Quentin Blake\, read newly commissioned poetry that responds to his drawings as part of the Foundling’s programme of live and digital events – What do you think about when you think about nothing? – curated by children’s author and illustrator\, Lauren Child CBE.  \nBlake and Child are both Foundling Fellows\, working with the museum to transform young lives through creative action. Given the growing crisis in children’s mental health The Foundling hope to create opportunities which reflect on the importance of the arts in supporting children’s wellbeing.  \nDirector of the Foundling Museum\, Caro Howell\, will take us on a guided tour through the 24 large-scale drawings which form two emotive series\, Children and Dogs\, and Children\, Birds & Dogs\, the latter made especially for the exhibition and never seen before.  \nThe exhibition reverses Blake’s iconic process of illustration\, by setting words to his images. Long-time collaborator Michael Rosen and writers Opefoluwa Sarah Adegbite\, Jackie Kay\, Yomi Sode\, 4 BROWN GIRLS WHO WRITE (Roshni Goyate\, Sharan Hunjan\, Sunnah Khan and Sheena Patel) and Ben Westwood\, have created poems in response to the drawings\, which take you on an imaginative journey into a wide range of feelings and experiences of childhood. \nCaro Howell is Director of the Foundling Museum. Previously\, she was Head of Education & Public Events at the Whitechapel Gallery\, where she oversaw the construction and programming of major new education spaces and project galleries. She joined the Tate Modern’s set-up team in 1997 where she formulated its access and audience development strategy\, and developed Raw Canvas\, London’s first peer-led museum programme for 15-23 year olds. She has developed a number of award-winning resources for disabled people including i-Map (2002) at the Tate\, the UK’s first online art resource for blind and partially sighted people\, which received a BAFTA. Caro Co-Chairs the Women Leaders in Museums Network and sits on the Exhibition Advisory Groups of the Charterhouse and Two Temple Place.

In response to seismic political and social upheavals On Happiness asks; how might we rebuild happiness for our current times? \nJoin Wellcome Collection curators Laurie Britton Newell and George Vasey for this exclusive Virtual Private View of the joint exhibitions Joy and Tranquillity which consider different routes to experiencing these positive feelings. From the uplifting sensations of dancing and laughter to the calm of being in nature and diary writing\, the exhibitions consider the effects of emotion on our self and others. \nFrom serenity to ecstasy\, awe to comfort\, happiness encompasses many different feelings\, and has perplexed scholars for centuries. There has long been debate around the role of emotions\, where they come from and how they are expressed\, and whether they are innate or acquired\, universal or culturally specific. Reflecting on the connections between these complex emotions\, our bodies and health\, On Happiness offers audiences an opportunity to rethink how we feel good. \nNewly commissioned works and multi-sensory installations by contemporary artists including Jasleen Kaur\, Chrystel Lebas\, Harold Offeh\, Amalia Pica\, Stefanie Posavec and David Shrigley are on display alongside historic objects dating back to the 14th century from Wellcome’s collection. DESCRIPTION:Book this event through Eventbrite here \nJoin us for a masterclass in putting content online\, in partnership with IP experts\, Briffa. \nIn 2020\, we had to adapt to life on Zoom. Everything from dating to trading to religious ceremonies were experienced largely in the online realm. In 2021\, we have ventured back out into the open\, but for many life will never be the same again. Having made the quantum leap\, it’s impossible to go back. This sea change presents a plethora of opportunities and challenges\, in particular for those in the business of creating and sharing content on line. We will look at three things. \nCopyright – The far-reaching nature of copyright law means that the use of almost all types of creative content is potentially restricted by copyright law in some way. We will discuss when and how such content can and cannot be used and shared online. \nPrivacy – 2018 saw the introduction of the most ground-breaking change to data protection law in two decades\, impacting not just Europe but anyone doing business in or through Europe. We will discuss how the enhanced privacy rights and obligations introduced by the GDPR (and\, post-Brexit\, the UK GDPR) impact our freedom to collect\, use and share personal data online. \nBrands – For those trading online\, brands are sacrosanct. A competitor setting up a website or social media account mimicking your own is the modern day equivalent of having a copycat open up across the street. Losing your trade mark or domain name to an opportunistic squatter is the equivalent of having your store burn down. It can devastate a start-up or a small business. United by ultra-nationalist ideas and similarities of style and action\, these movements shaped\, and in some places remade\, politics and society. They mobilised on the streets to attack their opponents and to support the accession to power of fascist parties in countries such as Italy\, Germany\, and Austria. Later\, they helped to enable German occupations and the Nazis’ policies of persecution and genocide across Europe. \n\n\n\n\n\nDrawing upon The Wiener Holocaust Library’s unique archival collections\, as well as the expertise of an international group of specialists in interwar fascism\, this exhibition focuses on the experiences of the rank-and-file members of fascist movements in the interwar period. This meeting will bring together people who are interested in practises that can improve and support the wellbeing of staff with caring responsibilities in the KQ. \nAcross the UK today\, 6.5 million people are carers\, supporting a loved one who is older\, disabled or seriously ill (Carers UK). 1.3 million people provide over 50 hours of unpaid care per week. Furthermore\, in 2020 the rate of children under 18 years in care went up to 67 out of 10\,000 (up from 60 in 2015) (CORAM). Every day another 6\,000 people take on a caring responsibility in the UK. \nAlthough caring can have many positive and rewarding aspects\, there are lots of reasons why caring can have an impact on your day to day life\, and why you may need support. From Stanley Spencer and Chila Kumari Burman to Rachel Whiteread and Michael Armitage\, Slade School of Fine Art has educated and trained generations of world-renowned artists since 1871. \nCurators\, Staff and Students from the Slade will offer an exclusive virtual Private View for the Knowledge Quarter\, showcasing their current artist-led exhibition SLADE 150: PAST\, PRESENT\, FUTURE. Students on programmes from BA to PhD level\, across all artistic disciplines\, explore ideas of tradition and heritage\, and ask how new generations can challenge and disrupt these. \nThe Private View will also showcase their parallel exhibition TESTING GROUND at the UCL Art Museum\, and PRINT PALS: THEN AND NOW – a print collaboration between the Slade and the National College of the Arts (NCA) in Lahore\, Pakistan. \n  \nAbout our speakers: \nNina Pearlman\, PhD\, is Head of UCL Art Collections at UCL. She works collaboratively at the intersection of research\, curating\, collecting\, arts management\, arts policy and innovation. She established Curating Equality at UCL\, a virtual platform for projects with UCL Art Collections that employ a collaborative\, interdisciplinary and poly-systems approach to gender equity in the arts and is a co-researcher on The Sloane Lab: Looking back to build future shared collections\, a multi-partner project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council under the Towards a National Collection programme. Pearlman is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts\, board member of Craftspace\, and co-producer of the Women to Watch project for UK Friends of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC. \n\nAbi Ola is an MFA Fine Art 2021 graduate in the area of painting. She works with painting\, collage\, screen printing\, photography and performance. Combining autobiographical and collective histories she takes inspiration from old family clothes\, nature\, and tribal art as well as African and Oceanic textiles. Through the original patterns that emerge she seeks to represent her West African heritage and her life in the UK. Ola intentionally obscures the identities of the figures in her work to allow the audience to place themselves or their loved ones within the images she creates. Ola is one of two 2021 UCL East student artists in residence. \nInstagram – @abiolaartist & Twitter – @AbiOlaArtist \n\nLícia Santos is in the final year of her MFA in Fine Art in the area of painting. Her practice explores the body and nature through drawing\, painting and performance\, often drawing on her mixed Angolan and Portuguese heritage. Her work for Slade 150 engages for the first time with the practice of print\, making etchings based on life observations of her peers at the Slade. She is interested in how spaces influence the creative process and how artists find refuge in these and consequently in each other. In 2020 she graduated from Goldsmiths College\, was Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year series 7 and received the Slade’s Euan Uglow scholarship. In the year of her graduation from Goldsmiths College in 2020 she was recipient of the Slade’s 2020 Euan Uglow scholarship and participant in Sky Arts Portrait of the Year. \nInstagram: @licia_santos \n\nKorallia Stergides is in her final year of the MFA Fine Art in the area of media. She is an interdisciplinary artist based between London and Cyprus working with performance\, installation and media. Stergides interweaves autobiographical narrative into her work that explores the vital politics of care in an interdependent world and emphasises nonhuman agencies. Moments of public gestures of care toward nonhumans imprinted in public spaces and buildings hold particular interest. DESCRIPTION:Students from Central Saint Martins MA in Biodesign will lead this hands-on workshop at the Somers Town Living Centre on the uses of living organisms as exciting new sustainable materials.\nDuring this workshop you will hear about how and why we can transform these living organisms into plant-positive materials. You will make bioplastics from algae-derived extracts\, explore alginate-based threads and composite materials made from algae and waste. \n*It is recommended that you bring your own mold for casting the bioplastic. This can be any tupperware or small container (best if plastic\, glass or ceramic). \nThis workshop takes place at the Somers Town Living Centre. This masterclass will help you understand how stress impacts our mental and physical health and wellbeing and will also give you some tips on how to have a helpful conversation with your colleagues and manager about managing stress. We will also have a think about what we can do to help break the cycle of stress\, and prevent this from becoming a more serious issue\, such as anxiety or depression.  \nThis masterclass will be facilitated Lisa Carmody\, Lisa is a Manager within C&I Wellbeing Partnerships\, of Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust. Lisa is a qualified Mental Health Nurse\, completing her training in 2003 at City University London. During her 19 years working in the NHS she has worked in various London NHS Trusts and in rural Dorset. Her main experience lies in working in Early Intervention in Psychosis in the community with young people and working on Research studies trialling psychological approaches to support people experiencing a range of mental health issues\, working closely with University College London. It has been designed to make us question the motives behind the recording of historical events and to encourage critical thinking on racism\, hatred and ‘fake news’ today. \nTaking the instantly recognisable Nazi-propaganda images of sub-human victims in Nazi ghettos and concentration camps\, visitors are led to reconsider the images as persecuted and dignified humans living ‘everyday’ lives only days before the Nazis came to power. \nFeatured in the exhibition is an award-winning immersive virtual reality (VR) experience. This cutting-edge experience enabled visitors to enter a virtual environment and ‘step into’ a Nazi-produced Holocaust photograph taken in the Warsaw Ghetto.
