SUMMARY:Virtual Community Champions
DESCRIPTION:Sign up for the Virtual Community Champions event using Eventbrite here. \n  \nCOVID-19 may have disrupted plans for an in-person Community Champions series in 2020\, but it is vitally important that our membership stays connected to our local communities. \nThe pandemic has exacerbated longstanding inequalities. Demand for food banks has tripled. A generation of young people have experienced an extraordinary setback in their educational and social development. \nWhile demand for community services has risen\, income has fallen sharply. Research into the impact of the coronavirus on the sector shows a funding shortfall of up to £10 billion by the end of 2020. \nAt the same time\, there are signs the pandemic has inspired a greater community purpose. Voluntary aid groups have sprung up to support those who are self-isolating. \nIn the first series of Community Champions we were lucky enough to be in the same room together\, to hear about inspiring partnerships between KQ and community partners\, and to carry this inspiration into our conversations with one another. \nThe focus of a virtual event must be different. We will hear directly from five community partners\, serving different audiences across the sector. These are: \n\nYoung people: Copenhagen Youth Project\nOlder people: Age UK Camden\nHomeless people: C4WS\nRefugees and other vulnerable newly arrived people: Pan Intercultural Arts\nCommunity services: Somers Town Community Association\n\nWe will hear about their experiences on the ground during the crisis\, as well as their expectations for the immediate future\, and the ways in which Knowledge Quarter partners can support their efforts. There will be opportunity for questions. We invite attendees from charities and community organisations to leave their contact details in the chat function\, as well as any links to fundraising campaigns – these will be collated and shared with the wider KQ membership. \n  \n\n\nOur Virtual Events:  \nOur virtual events are becoming increasingly popular and often completely sell out. To ensure you are able to join the event\, please ‘arrive’ (via the link sent through Eventbrite ) around 5 minutes before the start. This will ensure you are able to be let into the Zoom room before we reach full capacity. \nOnce you have signed up via Eventbrite you will receive a Zoom link by email 48 hrs before\, 2 hrs before and 10 minutes before the event\, please check your JUNK folder for these emails as they are sent directly through Eventbrite’s system. \nYou do not need to download Zoom software in order to participate – there is a web browser version which works perfectly well. \nIf you have any questions please get in touch with the KQ events team: Bhav or Jemima. \nCan’t attend but want to receive invitations to future private virtual views? Sign up to our updates here.

SUMMARY:KQ Network Event: Preparing for a second outbreak with local hospitals
DESCRIPTION:Please email the Knowledge Quarter team to register your interest in attending this event. \nThe Knowledge Quarter’s Supply Chain network will hear from two hospital trusts in our geography\, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (St Pancras hospital)\, about their logistical preparations for another outbreak in coronavirus cases. \nDuring the spring\, many Knowledge Quarter partners mobilized resources at a local level to support hospitals and hospital staff battling a surge in coronavirus cases. Our partners freed up parking spaces\, supplied personal protective equipment and even developed COVID-19 testing pipelines. \nThis virtual session will consolidate the lessons from the spring\, and add further resilience to future planning in the event of another significant outbreak of cases. By the end of the session partners will have a clear idea of what resources they can offer in support of the hospitals\, and of how\, as a network\, we can be responsive and innovative to the demands of the situation. \nThe Knowledge Quarter Supply Chain network is made up of professionals working in logistics\, procurement\, estates\, facilities\, waste and sustainability. Although the session will focus on support from a supply chain and logistics perspective\, we welcome the contribution of senior staff from across the wider KQ network with an interest in closer coordination with other KQ organisations and local hospitals on this issue (that might include staff who were organising to produce PPE supplies in-house\, for example). \nConfirmed speakers and agenda: \nSt Pancras Hospital / Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust \n\nDavid Curren – Deputy Director of Nursing\, St Pancras Hospital\n\nBuilding a testing facility and in-house PPE production \n\nJames Fawsitt – Head of Logistics\, Francis Crick Institute\nJames Callaghan – Head of Supply Chain\, UCLH\nClemency Elliot – Healthcare Planner\, UCLH\n\nFuture planning \n\nKate Petts – Deputy Director of Strategy\, UCLH\nRachel Styles – Senior Property Services Manager\, UCLH\n\nThere will be opportunity for attendees to discuss practicalities and barriers to logistical support\, and share any relevant work and accomplishments over the spring/summer period. \nThursday 24 September\, 10:00-11:30 \nPlease email the Knowledge Quarter team to register your interest in attending this event. \n

SUMMARY:KQ Virtual Private View: Black Monuments Matter
DESCRIPTION:Book your tickets via Eventbrite here. \n\nBlack Monuments Matter: A Virtual Exhibition of Sub-Saharan Architecture\n \nBlack Monuments Matter recognises and highlights African contributions to world history by exhibiting World Heritage Monuments and architectural treasures from Sub-Saharan Africa. In doing so\, this exhibition sweeps away ideas based on racist theories and hopes to contribute to both awareness of African identity and pride of African Heritage. \n \nSites and monuments are physical representations of histories\, heritage\, and developments in society. This exhibition aims to display the diversity and richness of African cultures as part of world history through the study of African Monuments; bringing awareness and pride of African roots and contributions to other cultures.\n \nAfrican cultures suffered extensively from slavery from the 16th to the 19th Century\, and during the acceleration of European colonisation through the 19th and early 20th Century. Black Monuments Matter aspires to create links to living African heritage by making it visible\, assessable\, and known to as many people as possible.\n \nMany of Africa’s monuments are protected by UNESCO and have been given world heritage status. They are also protected and supported by national heritage authorities and by the support of international organisations such as the World Monument Fund and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture.\n \nThrough an approach founded on the latest knowledge and technology\, this special private view event will offer Knowledge Quarter staff an opportunity to learn more about the glorious monuments and sites of African heritage and black cultures across Sub Saharan Africa.\n \nPresented in partnership with the Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations at the Aga Khan University in London\, and the Zamani Project at the University of Cape Town.

SUMMARY:KQ Virtual Private View: The Great Train Robbery
DESCRIPTION:Book your tickets via Eventbrite here. \nThe Great Train Robbery: Crime & The Post \nThis exclusive private view event will offer Knowledge Quarter staff an opportunity to explore one of the most audacious crimes of the 20th Century and the subsequent investigation\, alongside other stories of crime through the post. \nRevisit The Great Train Robbery and unearth the role of the Post Office’s own investigation department in piecing together this and other crimes\, shedding light on the human stories of the victims through never before seen artefacts\, objects and personal accounts. \nThe Great Train Robbery: Crime and the Post has been two years in the making and uncovers over 150 objects\, recordings and films\, some of which are displayed for the very first time.\nThe exhibition traces the history of the Post Office Investigation Branch\, the oldest criminal investigation service in the world\, established in 1683. The most high-profile crime investigated by the Investigation Branch is perhaps the most notorious crime in British history: The Great Train Robbery.\nThe exhibition tell the story of the robbery through its victims’ witness statements and trace the efforts made by the Investigation Branch to identify those involved and find the money. The exhibition asks visitors to question the enduring legacy of the crime: why is the public so fascinated by criminal activity and why have the criminals themselves been elevated to cult status?\nThis Private View is presented in partnership with The Postal Museum. We will be taken on a virtual tour by Andy Richmond (Head of Exhibitions\, Access and Learning)\, Joanna Espin (Curator)\, and Gavin McGuffie (Senior Archivist). \n  \nAbout The Postal Museum\nThe Postal Museum reveals the surprising and fascinating story of the first social network and makes our extraordinary collections available and enjoyable for all.\nUltimately\, behind The Postal Museum lies the Postal Heritage Trust\, an independent charity created to protect and share this rich history. The Trust and the Museum are an ambitious\, forward-thinking institution with an amazing story to tell. \nOur Virtual Events\nOur virtual events are becoming increasingly popular and often completely sell out. To ensure you are able to join the event\, please ‘arrive’ (via the link sent through Eventbrite ) around 5 minutes before the start. SUMMARY:KQ Virtual Private View: Extraordinary Stories from the Petrie Museum
DESCRIPTION:Sign up via Eventbrite here \nExtraordinary Stories from the Petrie Museum of Egyptian and Sudanese Archaeology \nThis Virtual Private View\, brought to you by the UCL Petrie Museum\, will launch the Museum’s brand new entrance gallery and tell the story of the cast of characters who were influential in creating the museum including: \nAmelia Edwards\, Victorian writer and journalist who donated her collections and library along with funding to establish the first Chair in Egyptology in the UK\, choosing UCL because it was the only university at the time to offer degrees to women. \nAli Suefi\, the head-overseer of many teams of Egyptian ‘Quftis’ working to excavate Egyptian archaeological sites for Western researchers. \nViolette LaFleur\, UCL conservation student and volunteer\, who almost single-handedly saved the collection from the World War Two bombs that destroyed her own home. \nAnd of course\, William Matthew Flinders Petrie; pioneer archaeologist and ‘father of pots’\, with a complex legacy of eugenics research. \nJoin the curator\, Dr Anna Garnett\, and head of collection\, Catriona Wilson\, in this behind-the-scenes look at the Museum and the untold stories behind its formation\, as well an exclusive preview of the hidden love story behind a newly acquired Pre-Raphaelite pencil sketch on display for the first time. \nAbout the Petrie Museum: \nFree to visit\, the Petrie Museum is home to one of the most significant collections of Egyptian and Sudanese archaeology in the world. This extraordinary collection tells the stories of the lives of ordinary people who lived along the Nile Valley thousands of years ago. Inside you’ll find papyrus and stone fragments inscribed with hieroglyphs; musical instruments and children’s toys; thousands of beads and amulets; ancient mummy cases and the treasures buried with them for the afterlife; and the oldest woven garment in the world: the Tarkhan Dress. \nIt is named after William Matthew Flinders Petrie (1853-1942)\, appointed in 1892 as first UCL Edwards Professor of Egyptian Archaeology and Philology. Over three-quarters of the material comes from excavations directed or funded by Petrie\, or from purchases he made for university teaching. \nThe new entrance gallery was funded by the DCMS Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund. \n  \nOur Virtual Events:  \nOur virtual events are becoming increasingly popular and often completely sell out. SUMMARY:KQ Virtual Private View: Aby Warburg’s Bilderatlas Mnemosyne
DESCRIPTION:Book this event through Eventbrite here \nJoin the Director of the Warburg Institute\, Professor Bill Sherman\, and archivist Claudia Wedepohl\, in this exclusive showcase of the final and most unconventional project of Warburg’s lifetime. This Virtual Private View will bring together two exhibitions of Aby Warburg’s legendary Bilderatlas Mnemosyne\, revealing Warburg’s revolutionary understanding of art and cultural theory. \nFor the first time since 1929\, all 63 panels of Aby Warburg’s renowned Bilderatlas Mnemosyne have been reconstructed using Warburg’s original materials for display at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. In a simultaneous exhibition at the Gemäldegalerie you can see some 50 original artworks in the collections of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin chosen by Warburg for inclusion in his encyclopedic atlas of images. These two very special exhibitions\, taking place in Germany\, present the collection as close to the original as we will ever get to see in our lifetimes. \nIn collaboration with the Warburg Institute\, University of London\, the curators located most of the 971 illustrations from the 400\,000 objects in the Institute’s Photographic Collection and Library to display Warburg’s unfinished magnum opus in its entirety for the first time since his death. \nBill Sherman is the director of the Warburg Institute and professor in the History of the Book and Techniques of Scholarship. Sherman was founding director of the interdisciplinary Centre for Renaissance and Early Modern Studies at the University of York\, and he moved to the Warburg from the Victoria and Albert Museum\, where he served as Director of Research and Collections and head of the V&A Research Institute (VARI). \nClaudia Wedepohl is the Archivist of the Warburg Institute. She has studied Art History and Italian Literature in Göttingen and Hamburg\, and joined the staff of the Warburg Institute in 2000. She held fellowships at the Center for Literary and Cultural Research in Berlin and at the Center for Advanced Studies\, Morphomata\, at the University of Cologne (2010-11). \nAbout the Warburg Institute:  \nFounded by Aby Warburg in Hamburg at the end of the nineteenth century and exiled from Germany in 1933\, the Warburg Institute attracted the greatest humanist scholars and philosophers of the time. The Warburg Institute quickly became one of the leading centres in Germany for the understanding of the interactions between images and society across time and space.  It transformed the histories of art\, literature\, and music\, and in emphasizing fields such as astrology and magic\, anticipated many of the developments in the modern understanding of the history of science. \nOur Virtual Events:  \nOur virtual events are becoming increasingly popular and often completely sell out. SUMMARY:KQ Press and PR Professionals Meeting: Working with Press in the time of Covid
DESCRIPTION:Knowledge Quarter Press and PR Professionals Meeting: Working with Press in the time of Covid \nSign up on eventbrite here.  \nJoin fellow KQ Press and PR Professionals on the morning of Monday 22 March for a virtual coffee. This event will be hosted by Elle Docx\, KQ Board Member and Director of Communications for the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. \nIt is easy to get comfortable with your working habits and it is a daunting prospect to have your traditional and reliable methods uprooted and challenged. Press in particular is a very hands-on and sociable job role that often requires meeting journalists and contacts face-to-face. As a result of the lockdown\, furlough and general well-being\, some of the most integral elements of press work have been significantly impacted and conventional press approaches have been replaced by virtual relationships and conflicting priorities. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment invite you to this knowledge-sharing session to talk about how working with press has changed during the pandemic. This session will provide an opportunity to reflect on how strategies\, attitudes\, relationships and well-being have been affected and share your experience with other press workers from a variety of industries. \nThe Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment are a historically informed Orchestra who are Artistic Associate at Kings Place. \nAbout our Networks: \nOur Breakfast meet-ups give professionals working across the Knowledge Quarter the chance to keep up-to-date with all that is happening in the area\, as well as share tips and experience on what gets people through the door and engaging online. \nBreakfast meetings are relaxed\, friendly sessions; grab a coffee\, a pastry and join a table. We open proceedings with a handful of Lightning Talks from external organisations and from a selection of partners.

SUMMARY:KQ Virtual Private View: Always Walking Alongside with Age UK Camden
DESCRIPTION:Book this event through Eventbrite here \nAge UK Camden have been documenting their work in the community throughout the COVID19 crisis. In this Virtual Private View of Julian Claxton’s photography\, Age UK Camden will share an intimate and unseen side to the pandemic. \nAge UK Camden organised and launched an initial response to the COVID 19 crisis on Friday 13th March 2020\, providing emergency food parcels via donations. When national lockdown was announced in late March there was an inevitable surge in demand for support\, and clients were becoming increasingly distressed. \nAge UK received over 7000 referrals and delivered over 20\,000 bags of food throughout the borough. \nThe narrative and images in the exhibition focus on the local people who made this response possible; including those from Age UK who put themselves at risk every day for the good of others\, to source and pack essential provisions for those who were unable to get food for themselves\, the delivery drivers and those making regular phone calls and caring for older people shielding at home. \n‘We are very proud to display these achievements through a gallery of such impactful imagery.’ Nikki Morris\, CEO Age UK Camden. \nPhotographer Julian Claxton has held numerous exhibitions\, been featured nationally & internationally in print and won numerous awards\, including the 2015 Travel Media Awards for documentary images of children in rural Uganda\, the 2016 Event Photography Awards for ‘Election day’ documentary and reached the final of the 2013 National Geographic competition. Julian documented Age UK supporting the Camden community in lockdown through photography. These images tell the story of the organisation\, the people and the passion for providing services for older people\, as well as the struggles and emotions experienced in such a challenging environment. \nAbout Age UK Camden: \nAge UK Camden is an independent charity working in Camden to offer support and services to older people. They provide advice\, enable independence and combat loneliness across the borough. \nOur virtual events are becoming increasingly popular and often completely sell out. To ensure you are able to join the event\, please ‘arrive’ (via the link sent through Eventbrite) around 5 minutes before the start. \nIf you have any questions please get in touch with the KQ events manager Bhav. \nCan’t attend but want to receive invitations to future private virtual views? SUMMARY:KQ Exhibition Professionals Meeting: Emotional Evaluation of Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:Book tickets through Eventbrite here. \nKnowledge Quarter Exhibition Professionals Meeting: opportunities for collaboration for Covid Recovery \nJoin fellow KQ Archive professionals on the afternoon of 27th April for a virtual coffee where we will explore the theme of ‘Emotional Evaluations of Exhibitions’. We will be joined by Frances Jeens\, Director of Jewish Museum London\, who will share some of the work they’ve been doing on measuring emotional responses to exhibitions. We will also use the meeting to reflect on the last 12 months and how our organisations have responded to the various challenges. \nEmotional Evaluation at Jewish Museum London \nThree years ago the Jewish Museum London began a new method of evaluation based on the desire to measure the impact of their programmes through the emotional responses of visitors across all their experiences within the Museum. A pilot programme was launched to trial collecting statistical data on how the Museum emotionally interacts with its visitors\, which has since grown to both change the creation of their programmes and how they evaluate them. \nJoin the session to both see the results from the initial pilot project and to hear how this has impacted the Jewish Museum London’s work both before and during Covid-19 and their plans for reopening our Museum building. We’ll explore the idea of positive and negative emotions when experienced within the Museum and the idea of emotional hacking and empathy activation. SUMMARY:KQ Virtual Private View: The Silk Road\, A Living History
DESCRIPTION:Book this event through Eventbrite here \nThe Aga Khan Foundation UK present an an exclusive virtual private view of their open-air photography exhibition about the people\, places and cultures encountered across 17 countries between the UK and China along the ancient Silk Road. \nComprised of nearly 160 photographs mounted on 24 photo benches\, The Silk Road: A Living History invites the viewer to take a 40\,000km journey from London to Beijing. The exhibition documents an overland journey photographer Christopher Wilton-Steer undertook in 2019 following the historic trade route. \nThe show aims to celebrate the diversity of cultural expressions found along the route\, highlight examples of how historical practices\, rituals and customs live on today\, and also reveal some of the connections between what appear at first glance to be very different cultures. It also seeks to engender interest and understanding between distant cultures and challenge perceptions of less well known and understood parts of the world. Photographs from Iran\, Turkmenistan\, Uzbekistan\, Tajikistan\, Kyrgyzstan\, Pakistan\, India\, China and elsewhere will feature. Additionally\, the exhibition aims to raise awareness about AKDN’s contributions to improving the quality of life across social\, economic and cultural spheres in Central and South Asia as well as the Middle East. \nChristopher Wilton-Steer is a travel photographer and Head of Communications at Aga Khan Foundation UK. His professional and personal work take him to remote locations across Africa\, Asia and the Middle East. Through his photography\, he is interested in exploring less well documented and often misunderstood parts of the world in an effort to help demystify them and build bridges of interest and understanding between different cultures. Ultimately\, he wishes for his photographs to encourage others to take the road less travelled and explore\, experience and encounter new places\, people and cultures. His work has been featured in magazines and newspapers around the world including National Geographic\, The Guardian\, CNN\, Financial Times\, and Der Spiegel amongst others. \nPhoto credit © Christopher Wilton-Steer

SUMMARY:KQ Diversity Roundtable: Gender Equality and Women's Networks
DESCRIPTION:Book tickets through eventbrite here. \nJoin the staff networks at the British Medical Association and the British Library in discussion on the topic of gender equality\, inclusivity and women’s networks. \nGender equality and women’s network groups can transform the experiences of women at work. Together\, we will hear the British Medical Association’s Women’s Network and the British Library’s Gender Equality Network discuss their evolution and collaboration with other staff networks and HR professionals. \nThis event is ideal for: \n\nStaff representing Women\, Gender Equality and similar networks in their organisations\nStaff looking to set up Gender Equality networks in their organisation\nSenior management\nDiversity and Inclusion professionals\nStaff developing diversity and inclusion strategies\n\nThis event will be held via Zoom. SUMMARY:KQ Virtual Private View: Joy and Tranquillity
DESCRIPTION:Book this event through Eventbrite here \nThis Summer\, the Wellcome Collection launches On Happiness\, a season of free events\, activities and two exhibitions – Joy and Tranquillity – which bring together voices from across the cultural\, scientific and spiritual fields to reflect on the elusive subject of happiness. In this period of great instability\, escalating infectious diseases\, ecological concerns and rising levels of anxiety and depression worldwide\, Wellcome Collection examines the ways in which people find resilience\, hope and even joy at times of duress. In response to seismic political and social upheavals On Happiness asks; how might we rebuild happiness for our current times? \nJoin Wellcome Collection curators Laurie Britton Newell and George Vasey for this exclusive Virtual Private View of the joint exhibitions Joy and Tranquillity which consider different routes to experiencing these positive feelings. From the uplifting sensations of dancing and laughter to the calm of being in nature and diary writing\, the exhibitions consider the effects of emotion on our self and others. \nFrom serenity to ecstasy\, awe to comfort\, happiness encompasses many different feelings\, and has perplexed scholars for centuries. There has long been debate around the role of emotions\, where they come from and how they are expressed\, and whether they are innate or acquired\, universal or culturally specific. Reflecting on the connections between these complex emotions\, our bodies and health\, On Happiness offers audiences an opportunity to rethink how we feel good. \nNewly commissioned works and multi-sensory installations by contemporary artists including Jasleen Kaur\, Chrystel Lebas\, Harold Offeh\, Amalia Pica\, Stefanie Posavec and David Shrigley are on display alongside historic objects dating back to the 14th century from Wellcome’s collection. The exhibitions consider ideas from different schools of thought including neuroscience\, religion and psychotherapy offering a range of perspectives on the connections between emotions and health. \nImage credit: Joy Inside Our Tears\, 2021\, ©  Harold Offeh.\nProduction stills. SUMMARY:KQ Masterclass: Putting Content Online
DESCRIPTION:Book this event through Eventbrite here \nJoin us for a masterclass in putting content online\, in partnership with IP experts\, Briffa. \nIn 2020\, we had to adapt to life on Zoom. Everything from dating to trading to religious ceremonies were experienced largely in the online realm. In 2021\, we have ventured back out into the open\, but for many life will never be the same again. Having made the quantum leap\, it’s impossible to go back. This sea change presents a plethora of opportunities and challenges\, in particular for those in the business of creating and sharing content on line. We will look at three things. \nCopyright – The far-reaching nature of copyright law means that the use of almost all types of creative content is potentially restricted by copyright law in some way. We will discuss when and how such content can and cannot be used and shared online. \nPrivacy – 2018 saw the introduction of the most ground-breaking change to data protection law in two decades\, impacting not just Europe but anyone doing business in or through Europe. We will discuss how the enhanced privacy rights and obligations introduced by the GDPR (and\, post-Brexit\, the UK GDPR) impact our freedom to collect\, use and share personal data online. \nBrands – For those trading online\, brands are sacrosanct. A competitor setting up a website or social media account mimicking your own is the modern day equivalent of having a copycat open up across the street. Losing your trade mark or domain name to an opportunistic squatter is the equivalent of having your store burn down. It can devastate a start-up or a small business. We will discuss the importance of brands in the online word and in particular how to protect your own brands and how to avoid inadvertently infringing the brands of others. \n  \nOur Hybrid Events:  \nThe KQ’s Hybrid events will take place simultaneously in-person and via Zoom. \nThere will be two options when selecting to book a ticket: In-Person and Virtual. Please select the format in which you would like to attend the event. We have a limited capacity of 15 in-person tickets for this workshop event. You do not need to download Zoom software in order to participate – there is a web browser version which works perfectly well. \nOnce you have signed up via Eventbrite you will receive ether a link or instructions to find the venue by email 48 hrs before the event. \nIf you have any questions please get in touch with the KQ events team: Bhav (bhavit.mehta@bl.uk) or Mia (mia.johnson@bl.uk).  \nCan’t attend but want to receive invitations to future hybrid events? SUMMARY:KQ Private View: This Fascist Life
DESCRIPTION:Book tickets through Eventbrite here. \n\n\n\nJoin the KQ for this In-Person Private View\, in collaboration with the The Wiener Holocaust Library. \nIn the years after the First World War\, fascist political parties\, militia and movements emerged across Europe. United by ultra-nationalist ideas and similarities of style and action\, these movements shaped\, and in some places remade\, politics and society. They mobilised on the streets to attack their opponents and to support the accession to power of fascist parties in countries such as Italy\, Germany\, and Austria. Later\, they helped to enable German occupations and the Nazis’ policies of persecution and genocide across Europe. \n\n\n\n\n\nDrawing upon The Wiener Holocaust Library’s unique archival collections\, as well as the expertise of an international group of specialists in interwar fascism\, this exhibition focuses on the experiences of the rank-and-file members of fascist movements in the interwar period. It explores the world of the young and socially diverse fascist activists and examines their motivations and activities. \nPhoto credit © Wiener Holocaust Library Collections \n\nAbout KQ Private Views: \nStaff and friends of the Knowledge Quarter and its 100+ partner organisations get free\, out-of-hours access to some of the best exhibitions in London. \nOur series of exclusive Private Views has opened the doors (before they open to the public) of the British Museum\, The Francis Crick Institute and the Wellcome Collection. SUMMARY:Postponed - KQ Wellbeing Roundtable: Carers in the KQ
DESCRIPTION:** POSTPONEMENT NOTICE ** \n\nWe’ve had some feedback ahead of our event\, and it has become apparent that many people are unable to attend the event due to their caring responsibilities and the format and timing of the event (school pick-ups). \nIn light of this\, we’ve decided to postpone this event to the new year. We really feel this subject is of great importance and relevance to staff members across the Knowledge Quarter and hence we’ll move it to a date and time that’s more accessible for staff who are carers. We apologise for the oversight in our part and any inconvenience caused to you. \nBhavit Mehta \nEvents Manager\, Knowledge Quarter \n\n\nBook tickets through Eventbrite here. \nThis event will be part of our wellbeing special interest group series\, open to all KQ staff. This meeting will bring together people who are interested in practises that can improve and support the wellbeing of staff with caring responsibilities in the KQ. \nAcross the UK today\, 6.5 million people are carers\, supporting a loved one who is older\, disabled or seriously ill (Carers UK). 1.3 million people provide over 50 hours of unpaid care per week. Furthermore\, in 2020 the rate of children under 18 years in care went up to 67 out of 10\,000 (up from 60 in 2015) (CORAM). Every day another 6\,000 people take on a caring responsibility in the UK. \nAlthough caring can have many positive and rewarding aspects\, there are lots of reasons why caring can have an impact on your day to day life\, and why you may need support. This event aims to address some of the issues around this theme\, considering flexible working policies\, sign posting local expertise on caring\, and how KQ partners may be able to share best practise and support each other. \nOur Hybrid Events:  \nThe KQ’s Hybrid events will take place simultaneously in-person and via Zoom. \nThere will be two options when selecting to book a ticket: In-Person and Virtual. Please select the format in which you would like to attend the event. We have a limited capacity of in-person tickets for this event. SUMMARY:Income Inequality in the Knowledge Quarter
DESCRIPTION:Book tickets via Eventbrite here.  \n\n  \nIncome Inequality in the Knowledge Quarter \nAccording to the latest ONS Household Finances Survey\, the gap between the richest in society and the rest of the population has widened over the last 10 years. \nIslington has the 4th highest levels of income inequality in London\, and Camden is one of ten boroughs with the largest pay disparities – shockingly\, both boroughs have more than 1 in 3 children living in poverty (according to the most recent Trust For London Data). Across all UK regions\, the ethnicity pay gap was largest in London at 23.8% (ONS) and female employees were paid on average 16% less per hour than men in 2021 (London.Gov datastore). \nFor this special conference legacy event\, a panel of economists and policy experts will discuss the causes and impacts of pay and income inequality on KQ organisations and the area they call home. \nSo what steps can organisations take to tackle inequality within their own organisations? And how will these actions impact inequality across our area and beyond? \n  \nThis is a KQ conference legacy event\, brought to you in partnership with British Land. \n  \n\n\nOur Virtual Events:  \nThe KQ’s virtual events will take place via Zoom. SUMMARY:KQ Private View: Slade 150
DESCRIPTION:Book via Eventbrite here.  \nKQ Private View: Slade 150 \nWhile we have to take a break from our in-person private views\, we are working with curators to bring the KQ’s cultural offering to the digital realm! Join us at 3pm on Wednesday 9th March for an online experience brought to you by the UCL Slade School of Fine Art and UCL Culture. \nThis year\, the Slade is celebrating 150 years of fine art teaching and research. From Stanley Spencer and Chila Kumari Burman to Rachel Whiteread and Michael Armitage\, Slade School of Fine Art has educated and trained generations of world-renowned artists since 1871. \nCurators\, Staff and Students from the Slade will offer an exclusive virtual Private View for the Knowledge Quarter\, showcasing their current artist-led exhibition SLADE 150: PAST\, PRESENT\, FUTURE. Students on programmes from BA to PhD level\, across all artistic disciplines\, explore ideas of tradition and heritage\, and ask how new generations can challenge and disrupt these. \nThe Private View will also showcase their parallel exhibition TESTING GROUND at the UCL Art Museum\, and PRINT PALS: THEN AND NOW – a print collaboration between the Slade and the National College of the Arts (NCA) in Lahore\, Pakistan. \n  \nAbout our speakers: \nNina Pearlman\, PhD\, is Head of UCL Art Collections at UCL. She works collaboratively at the intersection of research\, curating\, collecting\, arts management\, arts policy and innovation. She established Curating Equality at UCL\, a virtual platform for projects with UCL Art Collections that employ a collaborative\, interdisciplinary and poly-systems approach to gender equity in the arts and is a co-researcher on The Sloane Lab: Looking back to build future shared collections\, a multi-partner project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council under the Towards a National Collection programme. Pearlman is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts\, board member of Craftspace\, and co-producer of the Women to Watch project for UK Friends of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC. \n\nAbi Ola is an MFA Fine Art 2021 graduate in the area of painting. She works with painting\, collage\, screen printing\, photography and performance. Combining autobiographical and collective histories she takes inspiration from old family clothes\, nature\, and tribal art as well as African and Oceanic textiles. Through the original patterns that emerge she seeks to represent her West African heritage and her life in the UK. Ola intentionally obscures the identities of the figures in her work to allow the audience to place themselves or their loved ones within the images she creates. Ola is one of two 2021 UCL East student artists in residence. \nInstagram – @abiolaartist & Twitter – @AbiOlaArtist \n\nLícia Santos is in the final year of her MFA in Fine Art in the area of painting. Her practice explores the body and nature through drawing\, painting and performance\, often drawing on her mixed Angolan and Portuguese heritage. Her work for Slade 150 engages for the first time with the practice of print\, making etchings based on life observations of her peers at the Slade. She is interested in how spaces influence the creative process and how artists find refuge in these and consequently in each other. In 2020 she graduated from Goldsmiths College\, was Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year series 7 and received the Slade’s Euan Uglow scholarship. In the year of her graduation from Goldsmiths College in 2020 she was recipient of the Slade’s 2020 Euan Uglow scholarship and participant in Sky Arts Portrait of the Year. \nInstagram: @licia_santos \n\nKorallia Stergides is in her final year of the MFA Fine Art in the area of media. She is an interdisciplinary artist based between London and Cyprus working with performance\, installation and media. Stergides interweaves autobiographical narrative into her work that explores the vital politics of care in an interdependent world and emphasises nonhuman agencies. Moments of public gestures of care toward nonhumans imprinted in public spaces and buildings hold particular interest. Her work for Slade 150 introduces for the first time object making alongside drawing and sound\, and takes as its focus the stray cat that transitions between its role as domestic and public ‘pet. \nInstagram: @aillarok \n  \nAbout Slade School of Fine Art at UCL \nSince its foundation in 1871\, following a bequest to UCL from Felix Slade\, the School has been a leader in fine art education\, fostering innovative\, interdisciplinary artistic and art research cultures. Its multiple histories have transformed art education\, research\, and practice\, both in the past and present\, nationally and internationally. \n  \nOur Virtual Events:  \nOur virtual events are becoming increasingly popular and often completely sell out. To ensure you are able to join the event\, please ‘arrive’ (via the link sent through Eventbrite) around 5 minutes before the start. \nIf you have any questions please get in touch with Mia (mia.johnson@bl.uk) \nCan’t attend but want to receive invitations to future private views?
