DESCRIPTION:Book via Eventbrite here.\n\nJoin the KQ for this in person Private View\, in collaboration with the British Museum\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformed by ground-breaking recent archaeological and scientific discoveries\, this landmark exhibition offers new insight on one of the world’s great wonders\, bringing the true story of Stonehenge into sharper focus than ever before. \nIn this special private view of their blockbuster exhibition\, the British Museum will reveal the secrets of Stonehenge\, shining a light on its purpose\, cultural power and the people that created it. \nFollowing the story of Britain and Europe from 4000 to 1000 BC\, you’ll learn about the restless and highly connected age of Stonehenge – a period of immense transformation and radical ideas that changed society forever. \nThe human story behind the stones reveals itself through a variety of fascinating objects. Among these are stone axes from the North Italian Alps\, stunning gold jewellery and astonishing examples of early metalwork including the Nebra Sky Disc – the world’s oldest surviving map of the stars. A remarkably preserved 4\,000-year-old timber circle dubbed Seahenge also takes centre stage in the show\, on loan for the very first time. All these objects offer important clues about the beliefs\, rituals\, and complex worldview of Neolithic people\, helping to build a vivid sense of life for Europe’s earliest ancestors. \nAbout The British Museum \nThe British Museum was founded in 1753 and opened its doors in 1759. Developed in collaboration with Arctic communities\, the exhibition celebrates the ingenuity and resilience of Arctic Peoples throughout history. It tells the powerful story of respectful relationships with icy worlds and how Arctic Peoples have harnessed the weather and climate to thrive. \nThe British Museum is the oldest national public museum in the world\, and has been free to visit for ‘all studious and curious persons’ since 1759. DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to attend the British Museum’s National Programmes 2019 Conference on Monday 4 November. The conference will explore equality and diversity in museum practice across the UK – highlighting issues of representation\, authority and power with particular focus on disability\, class\, gender\, race and sexuality.\nBonnie Greer has recently been announced as the keynote speaker. Playwright\, novelist\, critic\, broadcaster and former British Museum Trustee\, Bonnie is passionate about making positive change in the museum sector. Bonnie’s keynote address will be followed by over 35 different sessions\, led by speakers and contributors from across the UK. \nThis event is open to anyone working in or with museums: museum professionals\, representatives of sector bodies\, community partner organisations and people working in the arts\, cultural heritage and creative industries with a relevance to the museum sector\, and others working in these fields including charities and third-sector organisations\, freelance practitioners\, artists\, activists\, funders\, academics and early-career scholars. Emerging museum practitioners are particularly encouraged to take part. \nTickets are available to purchase online via the British Museum’s website\, priced at £15. Thanks to the support of the Vivmar Foundation\, £8 concessions tickets are available for anyone who needs them\, as well as a limited number of travel bursaries for those who would otherwise be unable to attend.

Meet Edvard Munch\, Norway’s answer to Vincent van Gogh\, as the British Museum showcases the largest exhibition of his prints in the UK for 45 years (including ‘The Scream’ lithograph). \n“We do not want pretty pictures to be hung on drawing-room walls. We want … an art that arrests and engages. An art of one’s innermost heart.” – Edvard Munch \n‘The Scream’ is a deeply personal response to Munch’s upbringing and experiences as a young artist – he rejected his strict Lutheran upbringing to pursue an unconventional lifestyle.
