DESCRIPTION:Continuing our AI initiatives this year\, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with the Alan Turing Institute for the 2024 Turing Lectures this autumn. This year’s series\, “In AI we trust…?”\, will explore the complex relationship between artificial intelligence and the future of democracy. Read the full news story here. \nEach of the three lectures will run from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM and include a 30-minute Q&A session\, followed by drinks and networking with Turing scientists and other attendees—included with your £10 ticket. All lectures will take place in person at Kings Place and live-streamed online. \nThe 2024 Turing Lectures\n\n\nThe first lecture in the series “Can democracy handle AI?” was delivered on 26 September by Dr Jonathan Bright\, Head of Online Safety at the Alan Turing Institute. Watch the recording here.\nThe second lecture entitled “Can we trust AI?” will be given on 14 October by Dr Abeba Birhane\, Senior Fellow in Trustworthy AI at Mozilla Foundation. Book now.\nThe third and last lecture “Can we live with AI?” will be delivered on 9 December by Professor Shannon Vallor\, Baillie Gifford Chair in the Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence at the Edinburgh Futures Institute . DESCRIPTION:Join the Knowledge Quarter for this exclusive private view and guided tour of Healing Words: The Unofficial Story of Medical Practice in England\, 1500–1800 at the Royal College of Physicians. \nSign up to the private view here.\n  \nThis KQ CONNECT event will feature an exclusive 30-minute tour at 17:45 with Pamela Forde\, RCP archives manager and the lead curator of Healing Words. \nAdditionally\, enjoy nibbles\, a unique opportunity for KQ networking and the chance to participate in some fun\, interactive activities! \nYou’re welcome to drop in any time between 17:30 and 18:30. \nAbout the exhibition \n“This exhibition takes a critical look at the established narratives around ‘unofficial’ or ‘domestic’ medical practice in England in previous centuries\, as documented in medical recipe books.” — Pamela Forde\, RCP archives manager and lead curator of Healing Words \nHealing Words reveals how ordinary households used recipe books to document and share knowledge about treatments and cures. \nThe exhibition features rare manuscripts and recipe collections that shed light on early medical practices\, family traditions\, and the blend of science and folk knowledge in the creation of health remedies. \nRecipe books served as essential resources for households\, often blending science\, nature\, and traditional wisdom. These texts preserved knowledge about herbs\, spices\, and plants\, providing insights into early forms of pharmacy and healthcare. \nAccessibility\nThe exhibition is located on the first floor gallery of the RCP building\, which has accessible lifts to all levels and toilets on the Lower Ground floor. Guide and hearing dogs are welcome. There is limited car parking spaces available for disabled visitors only\, please contact the RCP to book these in advance. Additional tools are available at the start of the exhibition including large print captions\, magnifying glasses and coloured overlays.
