SUMMARY:Constructing Change: Planning For Climate and Communities at London Climate Action Week 2025
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Knowledge Quarter and Somers Town Community Association\, this event explores how retrofitting\, low-carbon design\, and community-led planning can drive sustainable\, equitable development – prioritising repair over replacement and putting people at the heart of change.\n  \nIn a city defined by constant redevelopment\, what does it really mean to live in a growing London\, especially in the Knowledge Quarter? As the built environment expands and London works towards net zero\, emissions and air pollution from construction continue to increase\, with significant consequences for local people. \nThis event challenges the narrative of growth. What if growth meant repairing instead of replacing\, working with what we already have\, and putting communities at the centre of change? \nWe’ll explore how retrofitting\, low-carbon design\, and care-centred planning can drive both climate action and social equity. These solutions aren’t without challenges; retrofitting complex buildings\, shifting mindsets\, and meaningfully involving communities in technical processes\, demand time\, trust\, and collaboration. But through co-design\, education\, and inclusive decision-making\, we can empower communities and residents to have a greater say in the future of their neighbourhoods\, London and the planet. \nJoin spatial practitioners\, developers\, and community organisers as we discuss what sustainable\, equitable development looks like\, and how we can build it together. \nEvent Details\n\nDate: Wednesday June 25\nLocation: Impact Hub London Euston\, 1 Triton Square\, London NW1 3DS\nTime: 09:30 – 12:00 PM\n\nWe will be joined by the exhibition curator\, who will deliver opening remarks and a guided tour through the gallery space. \nFor any enquiries\, please contact events@knowledgequarter.london. \nRSVP here

SUMMARY:Writing Women: reviving Kana Shodo (‘Woman-Hand’)\, a forgotten female script
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate National Writing Day\, the Book and Print Initiative at the Institute of English Studies\, School of Advanced Study\, has invited Kaoru Akagawa\, designated Master of Japanese calligraphy\, to tell the story of Kana Shodo\, which was developed and used by noblewomen to express themselves freely within the constraints of 10th-century Japanese court life. SUMMARY:Lost Dog: Juliet & Romeo
DESCRIPTION:It turns out they didn’t die in a tragic misunderstanding\, they grew up and lived happily ever after…well they lived at least.\nNow they are 40ish\, at least one of them is in the grips of a mid-life crisis\, they feel constantly mocked by their teenage selves and haunted by the pressures of being the poster couple for romantic love. They have decided to confront their current struggles by putting on a performance – about themselves. Their therapist told them it was a terrible idea. \nWith Lost Dog’s blend of dance\, theatre and comedy this duet\, directed by Olivier Award nominated Ben Duke\, takes on our cultural obsession with youth and our inevitable issues with longevity. \nBook your tickets here.
