SUMMARY:Exhibition: Creative Unions (16 Sep - 21 Oct)
DESCRIPTION:The contemporary world must be defined not by boundary or binary but connection. Sharing the work of this year’s graduating Central Saint Martins students\, Creative Unions celebrates the power of designers to challenge isolationism. \nAt the heart of the London Design Festival’s King’s Cross design district\, visit Creative Unions to see how – from a board game to solve conflict or a sustainable solution for the housing crisis to fashion that’s part-propaganda – the next generation of designers are responding to current contexts with urgency and ingenuity. Identity\, collaboration\, conflict resolution\, community\, alternative realities\, technological innovation\, social issues\, the environment\, activism\, crossings – just some of the contexts of the work on show in Creative Unions. \nClick here to find out more about the designers exhibiting.

SUMMARY:Knowledge Quarter and Scene & Heard: A special performance of Writeback
DESCRIPTION:The Knowledge Quarter is delighted to invite Knowledge Quarter partners\, staff and friends to a special drinks reception and performance of Writeback by Scene & Heard. \nScene & Heard is a unique mentoring project that partners the inner-city children of Somers Town\, London with volunteer theatre professionals. It gives children intensive\, one-to-one adult attention\, enabling them to write plays which are then performed by professional actors. \nWriteback is Scene & Heard’s latest performance – the result of work from young writers and older Member playwrights who visited the Knowledge Quarter and its institutions as inspiration for their work. \nThe Writeback course was held at Knowledge Quarter partner The Foundling Museum and the final performance is a direct response to objects in the Collection and the story of the Foundling Hospital. \nwww.sceneandheard.org \n“If you are glum about the state of the world and haven’t laughed in weeks\, recover some hope by seeking out a performance from Scene and Heard. This Somers Town scheme gives intensive\, targeted help to children in difficulties. It increases confidence\, helps make strong relationships\, teaches team work and co-operation\, and brings out hidden creative potential. It commits to its members\, sticking with them through their school life and into young adulthood. It is effective and\, unlike other worthy interventions\, it comes with songs\, dances and jokes. It is huge fun for everyone involved – I think that is the secret of its success.” Dame Hilary Mantel\, Scene & Heard Patron \n“This is theatre of the highest quality: imaginative\, inspirational and above all huge fun” Michael Sheen\, Scene & Heard Patron \nRegistration: Please click here to book your place.
