The Knowledge Quarter is delighted to invite Knowledge Quarter partners, staff and friends to a special drinks reception and performance of Writeback by Scene & Heard.
Scene & Heard is a unique mentoring project that partners the inner-city children of Somers Town, London with volunteer theatre professionals. It gives children intensive, one-to-one adult attention, enabling them to write plays which are then performed by professional actors.
Writeback is Scene & Heard’s latest performance – the result of work from young writers and older Member playwrights who visited the Knowledge Quarter and its institutions as inspiration for their work.
The Writeback course was held at Knowledge Quarter partner The Foundling Museum and the final performance is a direct response to objects in the Collection and the story of the Foundling Hospital.
“If you are glum about the state of the world and haven’t laughed in weeks, recover some hope by seeking out a performance from Scene and Heard. This Somers Town scheme gives intensive, targeted help to children in difficulties. It increases confidence, helps make strong relationships, teaches team work and co-operation, and brings out hidden creative potential. It commits to its members, sticking with them through their school life and into young adulthood. It is effective and, unlike other worthy interventions, it comes with songs, dances and jokes. It is huge fun for everyone involved – I think that is the secret of its success.” Dame Hilary Mantel, Scene & Heard Patron
“This is theatre of the highest quality: imaginative, inspirational and above all huge fun” Michael Sheen, Scene & Heard Patron
